When I first began podcasting, I made the necessary decision to shift from consumer to creator mode as I knew that in order to run my podcast effectively, I would need to stop listening to as many other shows and focus instead on my own.

It worked great and I can’t recommend this highly enough. Not only did I stop comparing myself to others who were miles ahead of me, but I also stopped doubting how I was doing things and shifted my attention to how I could add value in own unique way.

If you’re putting something creative out there in the world, there needs to come a point where you make this same shift from consumer to creator.

Recently, however, I’ve been enjoying reintroducing a handful of shows during my workouts each morning.

During one such workout last week, I was listening to an episode of Tony Robbins’s podcast (which, I must admit, has been challenging getting into), in which he shared his ultimate success formula.

As is so often the case with things like this, there wasn’t anything I didn’t know already, but it was helpful seeing it all summarised in such a succinct formula, making it easier to apply rather than just absorb.

Indeed, if I look back over the past few years, all my biggest successes have come when I inadvertently followed this same formula.

Let’s take a look.

The Ultimate Success Formula

1. Know your outcome in detail. Before setting out on any pursuit, you need to know what the ideal destination looks like for you. Yes, it will likely change over time, but you need to know what it is you actually want.

2. Know your why. Without a compelling reason for doing something, it becomes too easy to quit when times get tough. Why is this something you can’t not do?

3. Take massive action. Vision boards and goals are great, but at some point, you need to actually do the work. Opportunities only emerge when you bring your side of the bargain.

4. Notice what you’re getting. We’ve all heard Einstein’s definition of insanity as doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Examine whether your current approach is moving you closer to your goal or further away.

5. Celebrate wins. Whether you’re moving closer or further away from your vision, there are bound to be some small (and big) goals you’ve experienced along the way. Take some time to appreciate them.

6. Adjust your approach. Once you’ve completed step #4, you need to figure out what needs tweaking so as to realign your actions with your goals and ideal outcome. Do your goals need refining and/or do you need to adjust your actions? (I prefer the latter.)

And that’s all there is to it. If you keep repeating this process over time, there’s no doubt that you will experience success, whatever that means to you. Know what you want, take massive action towards it and regularly examine if you’re on the right path.
