Throughout my journey of creating a #1 New & Noteworthy iTunes podcast, many people approached me asking how they could experience similar success with their own show.

By far, the most common question I receive is “How do you find guests for your show?”

And to be honest, I don’t have a magic answer.

Because here’s the thing: Before I started my podcast, I knew exactly TWO of my guests. To put that into perspective, I’ve now interviewed close to 100 different people.

Now, some of the bigger podcasters out there make use of PR teams to find new guests, but my show was all me.

So how did I do it?

Well, I could share how I reached out to people who inspired me on social media, connected with people who I thought had an interesting story to tell, approached people who I thought could add value to my audience, left book reviews on Amazon and subsequently got approached by other authors, asked each guest for referrals, or any other tactic I used, but I don’t think that’s what really made the difference.

See, I could go into the details, but there’s a bigger lesson that encompasses all these tactics.

And that is the idea of ‘know-how’ vs ‘no how’.

If all those other things are the tactics, ‘no how’ is the strategy.

Know-how is the knowledge, the learning, the tools & tactics. It’s the things we think we need in order to be ready to take action.

‘No how’, on the other hand, is the unwavering decision to take action before needing to have the full game plan laid out in front of you. It’s a commitment to the what and the why, with the faith that the how will reveal itself as you go.

It’s easy to want to learn something new or feel like we just need one more ingredient before finally taking action, but at the end of the day, what moves the needle forward faster than any tool or tactic ever could is getting uncomfortable by taking action before you feel ready.

Too often, I see people wanting to make an impact, create change in their life, or start a side gig/passion project, but hesitating to get started because they don’t know how. I’m saying forget about the how and focus instead on the next tiny action that will move you forward.

Remember, if you’re not embarrassed by version 1, you’ve launched too late.

Instead of picking up another book or taking another online course, make the unwavering decision that no matter what happens, you’re just not going to quit.

Shift from ‘know-how’ to ‘no how’ and watch your world transform.
